Studio Update

December 10, 2008

Well we finished the outline of the tunes. There is still a lot to be done. The songs sound great. I am at a loss for words. I wish I could give you a sneak peak but no one hears the final product until its done. It’s just the way it is when you record an album, I wish I could take these tracks home and live with them, but I have learned its best to leave them, and when we come back in January it will be refreshing. The engineer also has a ton to do with these tracks before any roughs are done for listening. All I can say is the drums sound huge, the melodies are fresh, and these are ” the Anthems For A Broken World.” Peace.

Day 6.

December 7, 2008

Yesterday was exhausting. My tonsils were swollen and still are, fighting a cold and fever, Ny Quill is giving me nightmares, but the good news is I cut 3 songs yesterday. I want to say yesterday was the hardest days so far. I didn’t take many pictures, it was all work. The first song we cut yesterday was “Sail Away,”  this song is fairly new, but it came out awesome. Great Ballad. Then we hit “Chicago,” this song is our closing song for us when we play our set its short simple and full of love for our home town Chicago. Then at night we ended with a bang! “Silas” was the closing song for the night. Rocking Song. That is it for now. TTYL

Day 5 In The Studio

December 6, 2008

Well yesterday I’d have to say was tough for me. I think I laid down like  17 tracks in total for 2 songs. Out of all those tracks I would say 3 were good for each song.  The first song was “Dynamite” that one was full of energy, so after like 3 or 4 I had to really push myself to make sure my parts were right in each section of the song. We nailed it though, drums, bass, and guitar. The last song of the night was “So Alive” I got frustrated with Jesse and Brent in this song, we wanted to revamp it and do something new… lol but the end result was great! The song has a cool dance feel. Good Stuff. I did record myself on camera tracking drums so I will try and get that edited asap so you can see. Trav, quit teasing me about Nayla, I am going to have to replace your christmas ornaments with Mangos, and we all know how you love mangos! haha. Well that is it for now… ttyl.

WELL WELL!!! Yesterday was great, we tracked U Turn, And VIVA MEXICO!!! FORGET VIVA LA VIDA! There is a part in the song where I went for the Mexican Feel. I wish Everyone could hear it, but it is going to be a secret for now! HA. after Each Drum take I usually try and find something to do. We have to lock the drums which means they have to be perfectly synchronized with the click track if that makes sense. Any questions hit me up! lol. So after we did bass and guitar we started to track Butterfly. It was a good song to end the night, I fell asleep when Brent/Mitch’s kid. ( oh that is the on going joke for us here. we don’t call Brent,Brent. We call him Mitch’s kid.) But any who there is magic going on in this studio. Having Chris, Jeremy, and josh has been such a huge help. we were all a bit worried on how we would work together, but if feels like we have known each other, I do have a cool friendship with Chris and Josh but the fact that we all have gelled together is really awesome! So here are some shots from yesterday. Atlanta is freezing!!! My goodness I need some sun. And I miss Nayla…

We tracked our first song yesterday. The song was “time” I did some drum tweaks, it does sound different than the EP stuff we had before. I can’t get over the fact that the drums sound huge! Jeremy Larson and Brent wrote some really cool guitar parts for this song, that i think give the song a really cool flavor. Im excited! We ended yesterday around 1am. We were all dead tired. It did feel good to finally start recording we had Tuesday as a teaser for me, once they said Alex we are ready for drum tones I have to admit my heart dropped to my stomach. I was like “uh oh I hope I don’t mess up,” playing with Josh has been awesome too. This guy has so much groove and locks with the drums. Chris Bevins/ one of the producers has been asking me to change my approach to how I play certain parts of the song. Over all I am content with the drum take I laid down. So Im excited to what will happen Today, The next song is U turn. So LPC once again you are in my hearts and prayers, hopefully you guys can pray for us too, because it is FREEZING HERE!!!! My bed is hilarious too, ill try to get pictures of where I’m sleeping. Im ready for the mission field! haha

Day 3 Feels Like Day 2

December 3, 2008

Well we get in Monday and drop off all the gear, so tuesday was an actual work and set up day, The Fun of tracking should start today. This studio is SICK! It truly is a huge blessing to be working on this project here. Jesse and I have been working with this band since i was 16 years old. It has always been a dream, a wonder, a question Jesse and I would always ask ourselves. ” I wonder what it will be like to record?” I could have not imagined a more perfect scenario than this. My musical talent is not mine. It belongs to God. To be able to play is enough already, the fact that this record has a goal to impact the world is more than I could ever ask. The excitement continues! Here are a few shots from Yesterday! I Miss my LPC home can’t wait to get back!
